New Delhi: National Archives of India has launched a scheme to help individuals and organizations in cataloguing, translation, and digitization of manuscripts and rare books.

Under this scheme Rs. 2 lakh is available per year for each approved project. The money is to be used for purchase, listing, cataloguing, evaluation, translation and publication of manuscripts and rare books, historical documents and photographs, charts, maps, technical advice for scientific preservation, repair and microfilming of manuscripts or rare books.

Voluntary Organizations, Educational Institutions including Private Colleges, Private Libraries, Museums and Universities including deemed Universities, Freedom Fighters, Religious Institutions, erstwhile Princely States, big Zamindars and Individuals are eligible under this scheme for financial assistance.

It is expected that this scheme will benefit individuals with private libraries, khanqahs with their treasure trove of old manuscripts and rare books.

Applications can be submitted in the simple proforma given below this news story. Application along with all documents should be submitted through State Level Screeing Committee or State Archives on or before 15 June 2008.
