The target has been set under the country’s second version of Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP) which will come into effect from July 1, an senior official from Planning Ministry was quoted by XINHUA as saying here.

In March 2003, Bangladesh produced the country’s first three year national strategy widely known as PRSP for sustainable economic growth, poverty reduction and social development.

The new strategy paper projected growth in employment during the period between 2008-09 fiscal (July 2008-June 2009) and 2010- 11 fiscal years to be 4.67 percent and the total number of national employment will stand at 50.58 million.

The PRSP has made the projection of incremental increase in creation of jobs on the basis of an expected growth of the gross domestic product at 7 percent in the same period.

Bangladesh’s first PRSP set the employment growth at 4.3 percent in the light of the 2002-03 data.
