New Delhi : A Congress committee, appointed to suggest measures to re-vitalise the party, met here Thursday for the first time to discuss the party’s strategy in the poll-bound states, Congress sources said.
The seven-member committee, headed by Defence Minister A.K. Antony, initiated deliberations to finalise the party’s strategy for the upcoming assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi formed the committee on the Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) suggestion. The CWC had met last Saturday after the party’s humiliating defeat in Karnataka.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendations in 15 days, sources added.
Apart from Antony, the committee comprises Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, union Information and Broadcasting Minister P.R. Das Munsi, union Panchayat Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyer, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijay Singh, and CWC members Urmilla Singh and Mukul Vasnik.
