Bachchan, the brand ambassador of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), honoured Pachauri – chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which shared the Nobel Peace Prize with former US Vice President Al Gore last year – with the IIFA global leadership award.

“I am touched that Amitabh is making his contribution to the cause of fighting global warming. A small contribution from him is a giant contribution for the world,” Pachauri told the media Friday, the opening day of the three-day IIFA awards festival.

“Through his film, Pachauri informed us what to do to save the earth. Just now Abhishek, Aishwarya and I have volunteered to participate in whatever we can do in making environment related films. I have been talking about global warming for quite some time. Don’t keep your TV on standby, don’t overcharge your phone. These are small things but they make a huge difference,” said Bachchan sr.

Added Aishwarya: “Every unit counts.”

Abhishek said: “As a family we have been trying our level best. We do believe in starting from somewhere and what better way then educating people about global warming.”

After honouring Pachauri, Amitabh along with his wife Jaya, son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya planted a sapling in the Dusit Thani hotel.

Amitabh said that while he was in Bangkok for a press conference in April, he had planted a Champa sapling in the premises of the United Nations office.
