Hyderabad : T. Jeevan Reddy Friday returned as minister for roads and buildings in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet.
Governor N.D. Tiwari administered the oath of office and secrecy to him at a Raj Bhavan function which was attended by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and his cabinet colleagues.
Jeevan Reddy resigned as minister last month to contest May 29 Lok Sabha by-election from Karimnagar constituency. He was defeated by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao, who retained the seat.
This was his second defeat from the same constituency in a year. However, the TRS chief’s victory margin came down to 15,000 from 220,000 votes last year.
After the defeat in last year’s by-election, Jeevan Reddy was given a cabinet berth by the ruling Congress party.
State Congress president D. Srinivas and the chief minister stated after the by-election results last Sunday that Jeevan Reddy would be re-inducted as minister.
The chief minister also hinted at a cabinet reshuffle. He is likely to drop some ‘non-performing’ ministers and induct new faces as part of preparations for the next year’s elections to the state assembly and the Lok Sabha.
