Rescuers find body of miner in Kazakh coalmine accident

By RIA Novosti,

Astana : Rescuers have found the body of a miner who died after a cave-in and methane leak at a coal mine in central Kazakhstan on June 2, the Emergency Situations Ministry said on Saturday.

The Tentekskaya mine, located in the Karaganda Region, is owned by the world’s largest steel company, ArcelorMittal.

A search for another four missing miners is underway. ArcelorMittal has said it is unlikely that the men are still alive. The rescue operation was hampered by over 1,000 tons of rubble brought down by the cave-in.

A total of 95 people were evacuated from the mine after the accident.

A methane gas blast at ArcelorMittal’s Abai coal mine in Kazakhstan killed 31 workers in January.
