The Tentekskaya mine, located in the Karaganda Region, is owned by the world’s largest steel company, ArcelorMittal.

The search operation, which began immediately after the blast, was hampered by over 1,000 tons of rubble brought down by the cave-in. A total of 95 people were evacuated from the mine after the accident.

A methane gas blast at ArcelorMittal’s Abai coal mine in Kazakhstan killed 31 workers in January.
