Bhupathi drops, Paes moves up in ATP rankings

New Delhi : Mahesh Bhupathi dropped four places in the latest ATP tour doubles rankings Monday, following his first round exit from the French Open.

Fourth seeded Bhupathi and Paul Hanley of Bahamas suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Australian Stephen Huss and Ross Hutchins of Britain in the first round. Bhupathi is placed 13th with 2,785 points in the doubles ranking.

Leander Paes, who made it to the third round playing with a new partner — Lukas Dlouhy of Czech Republic, has moved up one spot to 23rd with 1,995 points.

Sania Mirza, who pulled out of the French Open because of a wrist injury, has slipped one spot to 33rd position with 857 points in her kitty.

She is playing in the DFS classic in Birmingham this week.

Women’s tennis has a new no.1 in Anna Ivanovic (4,222 pts) of Serbia, who dislodged Russian Maria Sharapova (3,806 pts) to second place after winning the French Open singles title. Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic (3,755 pts) retained her third position.

Dinara Safina (2,222 pts), who upset Sharapova in the quarter finals to reach the title clash, broke into the top-10 and is currently placed 9th, a jump of five places.
