Dubai : Maritime classification and risk management group Lloyd’s Register (LR) has assured all support and assistance to the family of its Indian surveyor Viswanathan who died in an accident in Dubai last Friday.
“We deeply regret this tragedy. Our senior personnel informed the family members in Dubai as soon as they were able to and one of our managers is now flying to the surveyor’s home country to inform further family members,” LR said in a statement issued from London.
“Lloyd’s Register will provide all support and assistance to the family,” it added.
Viswanathan died after he slipped and fell while surveying a ship.
According to the Directorate General of Shipping in Mumbai, he was inspecting an Indian ship, M.T. Prem Divya, in the Dubai Dry Docks. After inspecting a ballast tank on the ship, the surveyor was coming out when he lost his grip and fell down a vertical ladder.
LR stated that it would release further information after confirming the available facts and circumstances of the fatal accident.
“We will work with urgency to establish the cause, ensuring that any further action required to increase the safety of our surveyors is implemented immediately and that this information is openly available to all other interested parties,” it stated.
