Anis Mehra, who lives in Karol Bagh, was going to drop his friend Ankit Arora, a resident of Govindpuri in south Delhi, in his Hyundai i10 car after dinner in Kailash Colony around 1.30 a.m. Thursday.

The police said an Innova car overtook them near Vikram Hotel near Defence Colony. Angered at being overtaken, the two passed some objectionable comments at those in the other car.

The other car soon came to a halt and two men, yet to be identified, emerged from it. They had a heated argument with Mehra and Arora. The unidentified men phoned three-four other men who arrived on the spot with hockey sticks and cans.

“They all damaged the windshield and windows of the Hyundai car before beating Mehra and Arora. The accused immediately fled the spot before the victims could call the police,” a police official said.

The police took them to the Trauma Centre of the All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where doctors discharged Arora after treatment. Mehra, who suffered injuries on head, was in the hospital till late in the evening, but was declared out of danger.

Police said a case was registered and investigations were on.
