"Delhi got widespread moderate rainfall in the past 24 hours due to low pressure over south Rajasthan yesterday. Today also the city will get a few spells of rain but there will be a dry spell after two days," S.C. Bhan, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) director, told IANS.

The maximum temperature till 12.30 p.m. Wednesday was 34 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees below normal. But humidity remained high at 73 percent. IMD officials say it is set to increase further over the next few days.

After rain and thundershowers June 28, IMD officials had said the annual monsoon had reached Delhi.

"Monsoon rain in Delhi is always sporadic. The temperature will increase by a degree or two in another two days and we don't expect the city to get much rainfall before July 8 or 9," said Bhan.

About 29 mm of rain was recorded in Safdarjung in south Delhi while the Palam area housing the airport received 13.2 mm rainfall.
