Kabul : Four soldiers of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) were killed and two injured while on patrol in the Helmand province of southern Afghanistan, the ISAF said Wednesday.
The ISAF did not give more details about the incident occurred Tuesday not it reveal the nationality of the soldiers killed. However, some reports reaching here said they were British soldiers, whose patrol vehicle was hit by a bomb blast.
Britain contributes more than 8,500 soldiers to the current 52,900-strong Afghanistan-based ISAF troops, which are deployed across the war-torn country to help the Afghan forces restore peace and security.
The past three weeks saw intensified militant attacks, the fiercest of this year in the country.
More than 8,000 people lost their lives in insurgency-related violence last year, the highest in a year since hard-line Taliban regime collapsed in 2001.
