Lucknow : Six women suffered chemical burns after caesarean delivery at the Dufferin Hospital here, prompting the state government to order a probe Thursday. An official said apparently the medicine used to treat the closed wound after surgery had been used in concentrated form.

“Following the directions of the state health minister, we have sealed the solution that was applied on the cut after the operation,” I.S. Srivastava, director general (medical and health) told IANS.

He said it appears that the Dufferin Hospital staff applied the solution in its concentrated form, without diluting it.

The inquiry report pertaining to the incident is likely to be issued later in the day (Thursday), said Srivastava.

After the application of the solution, the women complained of burning sensation and itching. Later, the entire area where the solution was applied turned black, officials said.
