The project will focus on rehabilitating the ponds with a new internationally approved 'laminar flow and oxidation technology' developed by a US-based water technologist, Anil Sharma.

Giving a presentation to senior Punjab officials here Thursday, Sharma explained that every pond could be restored within a period of 90 days with the new technology without de-silting the muck and algae by merely increasing the content of oxygen in the water.

Sharma claimed that the new technology was considered one of the best and most effective in the world and had been tested at many places in India, including Haryana.

As a pilot project, the technology would be used in 12 villages of Punjab. Chief secretary Ramesh Inder Singh said that for the pilot project, the worst polluted ponds would be selected to see the effectiveness of the technology.
