The state government has provided four acres of land for the Rs.1-billion hospital, which is expected to be operational by March 2010.

“With eight most modern operation theatres, the proposed hospital would provide super-specialty treatment of international standards to the people of the northeastern states,” said Om Tantia, managing director of the GHPL.

Tantia, an internationally acclaimed physician, said: “considering the northeastern region is a cancer prone zone, a global standard oncology unit would also be built in the hospital.”

He said the hospital would be equipped with 34 intensive coronary care units (ICCU) and international standard facilities would be provided for cardiac surgeries, joint replacement, neurosurgery, general surgery, gynaecology and various other super specialities.

“A 40-seated nursing training school would also be set up along with the hospital, first of its kind in the northeastern state,” Tantia said.

“A large number of patients from northeast region had to go to Kolkata, New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai and other places in the country for better treatment, we want to provide similar treatment in the proposed hospital,” he added.
