Ranchi : Though they were disappointed at India’s defeat Sunday in the Asian Cup cricket final, fans of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni celebrated his 27th birthday with much fanfare in his hometown Ranchi Monday.
A birthday party was organised in Big Bazar where fans cut a cake before the poster of their hero. “Dhoni is a pride of Jharkhand and we wish he gives his best to country,” said Sonalika, a fan of the first Twenty20 World Cup winning team’s skipper.
Braving the rains, the fans gathered at Big Bazar and danced to the tune of songs like “Dhoni hai Jharkhand ke lal, chaua chhakka mare kamal (Dhoni is star of Jharkhand and he hits fours and sixes in magnificent way)”.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda also wished the skipper on his birthday. “We wish a happy birthday to Dhoni on his 27th birthday. We wish him all the best,” Koda told reporters.”we pray that he would perform better in future. Dhoni is like younger brother to me.”
However, a priest has blamed Dhoni for India’s defeat in the final match of the Asian Cup.
Manoj Panda, a priest of Deori temple, Monday said: “Dhoni has lost three successive finals. He lost the matches as he failed to pray at the temple of the goddess as he did in the past.” Deori temple is situated on the Ranchi-Jamhsedpur national highway.
