Baghdad : As many as 17 new Iraqi army recruits were killed and 20 others were wounded on Sunday when a blast hit their truck while they were travelling on a road near Baghdad, police and an army officer said.
It was unclear if the new recruits were killed by a roadside bomb or by a suicide car bomber.
The recruits were Sunni Arabs from western Anbar province who had just joined the Iraqi security forces.
