Jordan’s Foreign Minister meets US Secretary of State in Washington

Washington : Jordan’s Foreign Minister Salaheddin Al-Bashir has held discussions here with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on the current developments in the Middle East, particularly with regard to efforts exerted to push the peace process forward.

Al-Bashir, who arrived here Monday from Paris where he participated in the EuroMed Summit, stressed the importance of US role to achieve tangible progress in the negotiation process between the Palestinians and Israelis eventually leading to an agreement to bring peace between the two parties, pointing at the commitments that the US expressed during the Annapolis meeting to push the parties to reach lasting solutions to the issues of final status and achieve peace based on the two-state principle.

He also called on the United States and all concerned parties in the peace process to continue exerting efforts to ensure the implementation of the Palestinian and Israeli parties of their commitments in accordance with what was agreed upon during the Annapolis meeting and the resolutions of the international legitimacy.

Regarding bilateral relations, Bashir expressed appreciation for US assistance to the Kingdom and its contribution to promoting development in Jordan, stressing the importance of relations between Jordan and the US in various fields.

For her part, Rice praised the positive role played by Jordan in the region and the tireless efforts of King Abdullah II in order to lay the foundations for regional peace and stability.
