The former British prime minister is scheduled to visit Beit Lahya, north of Gaza Strip, and is not to meet any Hamas official.

The envoy is to tour the schools run by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and will inaugurate the second phase of a sewage system project in Beit Lahya.

Blair will meet UNRWA Commissioner-General Karen Abu Zaid as well as Director of UNRWA Operations in Gaza John Ging, who will brief the envoy on the economic situation and human conditions in the besieged region.

This is the first high-level visit of its kind to Gaza Strip since ruling party Hamas took over power in Gaza Strip.

Hamas meanwhile stressed highest security measures were taken for Tony Blair’s visit.
