Ramallah : Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s remarks about progress in the peace talks with the Palestinians were untrue, a Palestinian official said Wednesday.

Olmert’s recent statements made during the Euro-Mediterranean summit in Paris “were only words for the media,” said the Palestinian negotiator Yasser Abed Rabbo.

“The Palestinian side did not feel any progress either in the daily-life issues or the final-status issues,” Abed Rabbo added.

The Israeli-Palestinian peace talks were resumed at a U.S.-hosted conference in November 2007. Since then, no much breakthrough has been made on the talks aim at paving the way for the creation of an independent Palestinian statehood alongside Israel.

“If Israel keeps delaying and does not offer anything for the Palestinian side, we will recalculate our decision to go on with the negotiations,” abed Rabbo threatened.

To the Palestinians, Israeli continuation of settlement constructions and the restrictions in the West Bank are the biggest obstructions to any progress of the talks.

Jerusalem status, settlements, water, refugees and border are among the topics of on-going negotiations.
