New Delhi : Nearly three years after coordinated blasts rocked the national capital and killed scores of people, a court here Saturday began recording the statements of survivors of the incident.
One of the bombs was found in a state-owned Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus.
Kuldeep Singh, the driver of the bus, deposing before the court of Additional Sessions Judge Babulal said: “As soon as we identified the bag we stopped the bus and opened it. We saw some wires in the bag and we tried to throw it when it exploded and injured us.”
Singh suffered injuries in the blast and is still battling to get back his vision.
Budh Prakash, conductor of the bus, told the court that it were some alert passengers who saw an unidentified bag lying in the bus.
The court also recorded the statement of the depot manager, S.K. Khullar, who confirmed that he had thoroughly checked the bus before it left the depot that afternoon.
Balbir Singh, foreman of the bus, also testified before the court. The next hearing is scheduled July 26.
Three blasts took place in the capital Oct 29, 2005, at the crowded Sarojini Nagar market, Paharganj market and in a bus in Govindpuri, killing over 60 people and injuring over 100.
Five people have been arrested and charged with murder and sedition for carrying out the blasts.
Tariq Ahmed Dar, the alleged mastermind of the bombings, has been charged with waging war against the country and murder, among other charges.
Mohammed Rafiq Shah, Mohammed Hussain Fazli and Farooq Ahmed Batloo have been booked for criminal conspiracy, murder, attempt to murder and sections of the explosives act while the fifth accused Ghulam Ahmed Khan has also been booked under the explosives act.
