Emerging from Gate No 5 of Parliament House at 10.30 p.m. after the Lok Sabha’s special sitting was adjourned for the day, the prime minister walked towards waiting media persons and, asked whether his government would win, said in a firm tone: “I am very confident.”

To questions about allegations that the Congress has been indulging in horse-trading to buy MPs needed to reach the magical figure of 271, the prime minister said, “Anyone can make allegation. If they have any proof, let them show it .”

“We will win the trust vote,” he repeated.

To another question on whether the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government was concerned about rising inflation, he said: “We are concerned about prices and are making serious efforts to control prices. There is no question of our lack of interest. We are making serious efforts.”
