“The central government is contemplating to set up a chips production factory in Kangra district as it is famous for the production of high-quality potatoes,” he said while inaugurating a one-day Kisan Mela at Palampur, 150 km from here.

Many of the country’s fertiliser producers participated in the Kisan Mela.

Paswan added that unit would be set up only if the state government provided adequate infrastructure.

Earlier, the central government had planned to set up a steel manufacturing unit at Nahan town in the state. But the plan did not take off because of the lack of the state government’s cooperation.

Now, a steel unit is proposed to be set up in Kangra district, he added.
