Obama meets Brown, Blair

By DPA,

London : US presidential contender Barack Obama held talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the Middle East Quartet envoy Tony Blair here Saturday.

On the final leg of a trip aimed at enhancing his foreign affairs image, Obama also met British opposition Conservative Party leader David Cameron.

In contrast to his Berlin visit, which saw lengthy foreign policy address to a crowd of some 200,000 at the city centre, the London visit was a low key affair.

Observers said there was a desire in Britain not to seem to favour either Obama or his Republican party presidential challenger John McCain, who visited Britain last March.

It was assumed that during his talks in London, Obama would stress his view that the European nations should beef up their military presence in Afghanistan.

Obama Friday had talks with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris. The tour had earlier included visits to Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel and Berlin.
