By Xinhua,
Gaza : Spokesman of Islamic Hamas movement in Gaza Sami Abu Zuhri announced on Monday that an official delegation representing the movement would arrive in Cairo on Tuesday for talks with the Egyptians.
“Hamas delegation, which will only include two leaders, one from Gaza and one from Damascus, will arrive in Cairo on Tuesday to hold talks with senior Egyptian officials on several issues,” Abu Zuhri told reporters.
He added that the delegation would discuss with the Egyptian side issues related to the prisoners swap, opening Rafah border crossing and the resumption of inter-Palestinian dialogue.
Egypt is mediating indirect talks between Hamas and Israel on freeing an Israeli soldier held by Hamas in Gaza for two years in exchange for 1,000 prisoners from the Israeli jails.
On June 19, Egypt has also brokered a truce between Israel and Gaza militant groups. According to the truce, Israel eases the blockade imposed on the enclave’s crossings for stopping firing homemade rockets from Gaza at Israel.
“The delegation is due to hand over the Egyptian side Hamas responses to several issues that are under discussion between the two sides,” said Abu Zuhri, in reference to talks on prisoners swap.
However, Hamas movement has announced two weeks ago that it decided to halt the talks on the prisoners swap until Israel shows commitment to the truce and to easing the security measures imposed on Gaza Strip crossings.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, President Mahmoud Abbas announced that Cairo would invite soon representatives of Palestinian factions and political groups, including Fatah and Hamas to launch an inter-Palestinian dialogue.
However, Hamas spokesman Abu Zuhri said that Abbas call for the resumption of the dialogue in Cairo “is not serious.”
