Pakistani soldiers cross LOC, three killed

Srinagar : In a major incursion from across the Line of Control (LOC) by Pakistani troops, one Indian and three Pakistani soldiers died in exchange of fire that continued late Monday between the two sides.

A defence spokesman said here at least eight Pakistani soldiers crossed the LOC in the Nowgam sector of north Kashmir Kupwara district Monday and started firing from their automatic weapons at the Indian post.

“One soldier of the 15 Rajputana Rifles was killed in the Pakistani firing and three Pakistani soldiers died in the retaliatory fire from our troops,” the defence spokesman said here.

“The body of one dead Pakistani soldier is still lying on our side of the LOC as the firing between the two sides continued there,” the spokesman added.

This is the first major violation in the Valley of the ceasefire announced in 2003 between the South Asian nuclear-capable neighbours.
