Mumbai (Maharashtra): The Citizens for Justice and Peace has condemned Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) International General Secretary Praveen Togadia’s hateful statements following Bangalore and Ahmedabad serial blasts, and demanded the central government to ban the Hindu extremist organization.
In a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh the organization, which played pivotal role in bringing justice to the victims of the Gujarat 2002 pogrom, expressed concern over VHP’s malicious efforts to tag terrorism with Muslims and Islam, says a report in Urdu daily from Mumbai The Inquilab. VHP leader Togadia’s statements against Muslims are aimed at inciting the other community, said the organization.
Rather than calling for peace in the wake of the dastardly blasts, VHP is spreading hatred and trying to incite its activists to resort to violence against the minority community, said the letter.
The letter was signed by Teesta Setalvad, general secretary of Citizens for Justice and Peace, I M Qadri, Javed Akhtar, Rahul Bose and other personalities.
In a press statement posted on the website of VHP on 27th July, Togadia is quoted saying: “It is a matter of grave concern of all Hindus in India & the world that Jehadi Terrorism & government appeasement of those involved in Jehadi terrorism may destroy India very very soon. In 24 hours there were 25 blasts in India – 8 in the IT city Bangalore & 17 in a growing commercial hub Ahmedabad. Instead of fighting jehad, governments are giving quotas to those involved in jehad in govt jobs, police & army! It is ridiculous & dangerous to India’s safety.”
Challenging the political system of the country, Togadia has made a dangerous demand. He said the nation should be handed over to Army.
In the statement he has been quoted saying: “If governments do not have political will & capacity to finish Jehad & provide security to India, then all of them must resign immediately & give the nation in the hands of army that knows how to protect the nation & fight the real enemy.”
Moreover, he has demanded closure of all madrasas and quashing immediately of all the special quotas and facilities being given to Muslims.
