Maritime authorities were keeping watch on a cruise ship caught up in the storm in waters off New Zealand, Radio New Zealand reported on Thursday.

The Pacific Sun, operated by P&O Cruises, rolled sharply after being hit by 7-meter swells and 50 knot winds on Wednesday night.

A spokesperson said onboard medical staff treated about 42 passengers as a result of the sudden movement.

The Pacific Sun was returning from an eight-day South Pacific cruise and was carrying 1,732 passengers and 671 crew.

The storm has delayed it from docking for 24 hours and the ship is expected to arrive in port in Auckland on Friday.

Maritime New Zealand and the Rescue Coordination Center were monitoring the liner’s status.
