According to the complaint of N. Sankaranarayanan, an official of the Centre for Scientific Research here, Kalidas, 30, is said to have promised to arrange a loan of Rs.10 million in 2004 for developing Sankaranarayanan’s family business and reportedly collected Rs.1.71 as “commission” the same year.

The suspect allegedly threatened to kill the complainant when asked to return the loan, the police sources added.

The PMK was ousted in May from the ruling Democratic Progressive Alliance headed by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

PMK leaders have been alleging a witch-hunt by the DMK since then. A senior leader of the party was detained under the National Security Act in July.
