Thiruvananthapuram : A leading business group in Kerala is launching a range of instant food products.
Following the success of instant ‘iddiappam’ (string hoppers), the Manjilas group will soon launch instant ‘chappatis’ and ‘parathas’.
“Today, what one gets in the market is frozen food, whereas we would bring out chappatis and parathas which would have a shelf life of a year. All one would need to do is to just heat them,” said Renji John, chairman and managing director of Manjilas here, Thursday.
The instant ‘iddiappam’ has been a hit among Kerala households as all it takes to cook them is two minutes, whereas through conventional means it would take more than an hour.
“This technology has come from the Central Food Technology laboratory. Chappatis and parathas would soon be available in the market,” said Santhosh John, director marketing of Manjilas.
The ISO 9002 certified Trissur-based group markets its products under the brand name ‘Double Horse’.
Operating since 1959, the company now sells over 18 varieties of rice, and 90 rice-based food products.
“Currently, the company is marketing its products in 26 countries and plans are on hand to cover 50 countries at the end of this fiscal. We expect our turnover to touch Rs.1.21 billion during this fiscal, up from Rs.650 million in the last financial,” John said here Tuesday.
