New Delhi : One more person has been arrested for his involvement in the July 4 robbery and killing in Mayur Vihar area in east Delhi, police said Thursday.
Surinder was arrested here Wednesday from the home of a relative of his in Gautam Buddha Nagar area in Noida, on the outskirts of the national capital.
His brother Anil Kumar, a retired army personnel, was arrested carrying weapon from the spot of the crime the same day.
Santosh Kumar, a 26-year-old employee of a chartered accountant, was robbed and killed last week near the Akshardham temple.
According to police, the duo killed Santosh while he was returning to his home in Lakshmi Nagar, also in east Delhi, after withdrawing Rs.865,000 from a branch of Mahamedha Cooperative Bank in Sector 41 of Noida.
The two brothers hatched a conspiracy to rob Santosh after they saw him withdrawing the huge amount of money from the bank, where they also had an account, police said.
“During interrogation, Surinder revealed that he accompanied his brother July 4 to the bank. He waited on a motorcycle outside while Anil was inside the bank,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajay Chaudhary said.
“Soon after coming out of the bank, Anil told him that a person has withdrawn a huge amount from the bank and it would not be difficult to take away money from him. They quickly followed an auto-rickshaw in which Santosh was travelling,” the police official said.
Police said the duo forced Santosh to stop and tried to forcibly take away the bag from the victim.
“Anil fired at the victim after he resisted their attempts. But he was immediately overpowered by two youths who were passing by. His brother managed to flee on the motorcycle,” police added.
