Lucknow : Expelled Congress leader and former external affairs minister K. Natwar Singh, former Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Shahid Siddiqui and SP parliamentarian S.P. Singh Baghel Saturday crossed over to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) during a daylong BSP national workers convention here.
Siddiqui and Baghel were not only appointed BSP national general secretaries but were also declared the party’s nominees for two Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha constituencies.
Giving an indication of the party’s preparedness for next year’s Lok Sabha elections, Mayawati said: “We have finalized our party nominees for each of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh.”
She made it a point to convey that no matter how many national general secretaries she might appoint, Satish Misra would continue to enjoy a privileged position in the party hierarchy. It was only Misra who was asked to address the rally.
Misra, who remained brief and crisp, only confined himself to hailing Mayawati as the “future prime minister”.
