New Delhi : A Delhi court Wednesday ordered the director the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to appear before it after the agency’s counsel repeatedly failed to turn up for hearings in a 21-year-old case relating to classified documents being taken abroad.
”This is a case under the Official Secrets Act. Hardly anybody bothers to appear in the matter. It is clear that CBI has no respect for the process of the court,” Special Judge A.S. Yadav said.
On July 25, the court had issued notice to CBI officials to appear Aug 4 but no one turned up on behalf on the agency except a constable.
On the notice issued for Wednesday, the court was informed that the prosecutor could not appear as he had gone to Kolkata.
Upset over the repeated non-representation of the CBI in the case, the court issued notice to the CBI director to appear before it Aug 26.
Five people – K. Venugopalan, Brig (retd) R.S. Deol, N.V. Nerurkar, the then advisor of department of electronics, Kishan Kumar Jajodia and Aditya Kumar Jajodia of a private firm – are accused of sending secret and classified documents to Paris April 4, 1987.
