Vishnu Bhaiya, a suspended BJP legislator, Tuesday told reporters: “Shibu Soren is suitable for the chief minister’s post in the present political scenario. Elevation of Shibu Soren to the CM’s post is in the interest of people of the state.”

Bhaiya was suspended by the BJP last year when he supported former chief minister Babulal Marandi. Marandi quit the BJP in 2006 and formed the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM). Even the JVM has demanded dismissal of the Madhu Koda government and fresh elections to the state legislature.

“Shibu Soren should form the government in the state,” said the suspended BJP legislator.

Asked about his support to Soren, he said: “First let Soren stake claim.”

Manohar Tekriwal, another suspended BJP legislator, is likely to support Soren’s candidature. The JMM is trying to manage the numbers to form the alternative government.

“Let the Koda government fall on the floor of the house. We may stake claim to form an alternative government. Many Independents (unattached members) are in touch with us,” a JMM leader told IANS.

Soren, who aspires to become the chief minister, withdrew party support to 23-month-old Koda government Sunday evening, reducing it to a minority in the state legislature. In the 82-member house, Koda, himself an Independent, unattached legislator, now enjoys the support of only 25 legislators. Eight of them are Independent.

The JMM supported the Koda government in 2006 after four Independent legislators, who were also ministers, withdrew their support to the NDA government headed by the BJP’s Arjun Munda.

Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi has asked Koda to prove on or before Aug 25 his majority support on the floor of the house.
