Kolkata : Two criminals were shot dead by members of a rival gang Tuesday in West Bengal, the police said.
The incident took place at Kalibabu Bazaar – the business hub of Howrah town, about 10 km from here.
“Dreaded criminals Swapan Das aka Mach Swapan, 36, and Swapan Bar aka Chal Swapan, 38, were shot dead by rival gang members at Kalibabau Bazaar Tuesday. No one has been arrested so far,” district police superintendent Neeraj Kumar Singh told reporters.
District sources said Das and Bar were in their office when a dozen men started firing at them.
Das tried to hide inside a neighbouring house while Bar tried to escape via a narrow lane. But the shooters chased and shot them down.
Police said there were multiple murder charges and extortion cases against Das and Bar.
