Pakistan: political parties asked to submit statement of accounts by Friday

Islamabad : Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday reminded the political parties that they had to file with the ECP their statements of accounts for financial year 2007-08 by Friday (August 29).

It may be recalled that the Article 13 of the Political Parties Order provides that every political party shall submit within 60 days from the close of each financial year to the ECP a consolidated statement of accounts of the party duly audited by a chartered accountant, containing annual income and expenses, sources of its funds and assets and liabilities.

The statement of accounts of the party is required to be accompanied by a certificate signed by the party leader stating that no funds from any source prohibited under the Political Parties Order 2002 were received by the party, and the statement contains an accurate financial position of the party.

The political parties are required to submit the statement of accounts in Form-I, as prescribed under the Political Parties Rules 2002. Printed forms are available free of cost in the ECP Secretariat, Islamabad, and in the offices of the provincial election commissioners of the Punjab, Sindh, the NWFP and Balochistan.

The party leaders of the concerned political parties have been advised by the ECP to submit the said statement of accounts of their parties by the due date positively. The statements shall be delivered to Secretary ECP in the ECP Secretariat, Constitution Avenue, G-5/2, Islamabad, through an office-bearer of the party, duly authorized by the party leader.

As per the provisions of rule 11 of the Political Parties Rules 2002, the statement received through post, fax, courier service or any other mode will not be entertained, the ECP statement said.
