Tehran : On the 24th August 1991 Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (parliament) declared Ukraine as an independent state.
At the same year (December 1, 1991) over 90% of the people of reborn Ukrainian state confirmed the independence of Ukraine at the referendum.
A press release from Embassy of Ukraine in Iran said that during the independence years, there grew up the generations of Ukrainians for whom a meaning of “an independent Ukraine” is connected to such meanings as “national interests”, “human rights”, “freedom of expression”, “freedom of faith”, “freedom of movement” and “freedom of choice”.
The 17th anniversary of its independence Ukraine is celebrating with the achievements in domestic and foreign policies.
In the field of domestic policy, Ukraine built a democratic system of power. It is based on European values and democratic traditions, market economy, respect to human rights and freedoms, including mass media freedom.
Latest elections in 2006 and 2007 were recognized by the international community as free and just. After them, there took place a democratic handover of power to new coalitions. It proves on practice efficiency and stability of Ukrainian political system.
