Srinagar : Ghulam Nabi Lone (Hanjura), the candidate of Jammu and Kashmir's ruling Congress-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alliance, was Friday elected chairman of the upper house of the state's bicameral legislature.
The post had fallen vacant after the term of Abdul Rashid Dar of the National Conference ended last year.
Acting chairman P. Namgyal of the Congress had run the house during the intervening period and also conducted Friday's election for the new chairman.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad congratulated Lone, who belongs to PDP, on his victory.
