Curfew in Goalpara after two people killed in police firing

Guwahati: Curfew has been imposed by the district administration at Assam’s Goalpara district after two people succumbed to bullet injuries of security personnel on Monday which led the situation tensed.

More than 10 people including women and police officials also sustained injuries in the clash after the recovery of a local cowherd’s dead body.

Earlier, police had to open fire to quell the protesting people at Mailapathar area near Rakshashini forest of the district following the recovery of one Taher Ali who had been missing since Sunday. The 46 year old cowherd was recovered by the police on Monday morning.

Locals reacted angrily at the failure of the police and district administration of securing the common people lives. Goalpara SP Syamal Prasad Saikia said that the angry mob compelled the police to open fire. Seriously injured people were shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital immediately.
