New Delhi: After last week communal tension in Delhi’s Trilokpuri, Bawana area of North-West Delhi is now tense over opposition to Muharram procession. Provoking posters have been put up in the locality urging people to assemble to Bawana for a Muzaffarnagar kind of Mahapanchayat on Sunday to “oppose the Muharram procession.”

The provoking poster adds that nuisance in the name of Taziya, open exhibit of arms and processions should be opposed. It should be mentioned here that a month ago, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha too posters were put up by Hindu Krnati Sena in Bawana urging the youth to take oath to prevent cow slaughter and to “raise voice against the constant threat to religion of Hindus, truthful Hindus come forward.” Large number of deployment of force then had thwarted any attempt at disturbing the peace in the locality.

However, last week, Delhi Police remained mute spectator for over two days at least as communal pitch rose in Trilokpuri area in East Delhi leading to stone pelting and firing, injuring several. The Police, however, later swung in action and has arrested several people and except few hours of relaxation, curfew has been imposed in Trilokpuri.

Since last week, anti-social elements are trying to raise communal pitch in Nandnagri and Bawana and are instigating people in an attempt to cause communal riot, and consequently further polarisation for petty political gains.

Milli Gazette reported that the situation is so bad Muslims wearing skull-caps in Bawana Chowk (market) are now forced to remove them. Local Muslims have urged the government for large deployment of RAF as after the Trilokpuri incident, they are suspicious of the Delhi Police.
