Students Islamic Organization of India feeds thousands of migrant laborers amid lockdown

Student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in New Delhi, Students Islamic Organization of India (SIO), has been helping stranded students through its relief work since the start of national lockdown in March.

SIO had arranged for temporary shelters who suffered travel restrictions and during the Islamic holy month, migrant laborers are also being provided with ration across the nation.

Labeed Shafi, President of SIO detailed that the relief team has registered 1000 Helpline Centres across India and assigned around 10,000 volunteers for distributing Ration Kits to 85,000+ Families.

SIO prepared 25,000+ Ramadan Kits for families deprived of basic meals, 1,00,000 food packages for migrant labourers and 5000 medical kits for general distribution.

Shafi informed that SIO volunteers are working in more than 15 slums with a total of around 6, 50,000 beneficiaries across the nation. He added that volunteers are working to help stranded daily wagers to communicate to their families through the help of SIO volunteers, other than receiving essential supplies and shelter support.
