50 killed in Baghdad suicide attack

Baghdad : At least 50 people were killed when a suicide bomber drove an oil tanker packed with explosives into a petrol refuelling station in western Baghdad Wednesday, police sources said.

Sixty others were injured in the attack, they said.

"Our latest reports said that up to 50 people were killed and at least 60 other were wounded in the suicide oil tanker bomb attack," the sources told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

Many of the victims were badly charred by the huge blast, they added.

The suicide bomber drove the oil tanker rigged with explosives and blew it up in a busy petrol station in the Mansour are of Baghdad at about 2:00 p.m. (1000 GMT).

The powerful explosion reportedly set many cars ablaze and badly damaged the petrol station.
