Police said 27 people were killed and over 22 wounded when a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-laden truck in Sadah, 70 km from Mosul in Iraq’s Nineveh province.

The explosives were concealed under building material in the truck, said Brigadier Sa’id al-Jubouri, head of Nineveh’s police media office.

It is feared that the toll may rise as rescue teams and security forces continue searching for more bodies or survivors under the debris, he said.

In another incident, six civilians were killed and 10 wounded in an explosion that occurred in crowded Jesr Diyala neighbourhood of Baghdad, sources said requesting anonymity.

Bloodshed continues in Baghdad despite the US and Iraqi security plan aimed at controlling rampant violence under control. The plan is now over five months old.
