“There was a mild snowfall at Mahagunas top on the south Kashmir Pahalgam track today. Heavy rains also lashed the north Kashmir Baltal track and it was decided to suspend the Yatra till the weather cleared,” Madan Mantoo, director, public relations Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) told IANS here Monday.

Mantoo also confirmed that around 1,800 pilgrims were safely camped at various shelters along the north and south Kashmir routes to the holy cave.

“We, however, operated helicopter sorties for the pilgrims from Baltal to the holy cave and today 351 pilgrims used this service to have Darshan at the cave,” he said.

About 192,000 people have been to the cave since this year’s Yatra began July 1.
