Maoists behead man in Orissa

Bhubaneswar : A group of Maoist rebels have beheaded a man they suspected to be a police informer, the Orissa police said Saturday.

The Maoists had abducted Dutiya Naik and Mochi Dehury from Kechbil village and Arjun Dehuri from Talab village in Sambalpur district, some 350 km from here.

The rebels first reached Talab at around Wednesday midnight and abducted Arjun Dehuri, a grocery shop owner, at gunpoint. Dehuri’s house is close to a camp of the Orissa state armed police (OSAP).

Naik and Arjun Dehury, small-time contractors, were next on the list.

While Naik and Mochi Dehury were released Friday, Arjun Dehury’s partly decomposed body was recovered Saturday from a forest near neighbouring Gariakhaman village, a police official said.

Dehury was beheaded Thursday night, according to the police official.

Maoists are active in 11 of Orissa’s 30 districts.
