New Delhi : Three minor girls have been raped in separate incidents in two days in Delhi, which has earned the epithet of the crime capital of India.
Rajender, 18, was arrested for raping a three-year-old girl at his Nangloi house in west Delhi Friday evening.
According to the police, Rajender, who lives close to the victim’s house, called her to his home on the pretext of giving her a candy and then sexually assaulted her.
The matter came to light when the victim narrated the incident to her parents, who later informed the police.
Police admitted the girl to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed the rape.
“We have arrested the accused and are inquiring into the matter,” a senior police official said Saturday.
In the second incident, a four-year-old girl was allegedly raped at her Sultanpuri home in northwest Delhi Friday evening.
Keema, a friend of her father, allegedly raped the child, when the victim’s family were away from home.
A police official said that after hearing about the incident from her daughter, the angry parents tried to rough up the accused and later handed him over to the police.
“The victim’s medical examination has confirmed the rape. We have arrested the accused on the rape charge and further investigations are underway,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Manish Aggarwal.
A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a relative in Shasrti Park area of north Delhi late Thursday.
The victim’s parents approached the police after she complained that one Mahendera took her to his nearby home and raped her.
She was taken to a hospital, where her condition was stated to be stable. According to police, Mahendera has been arrested after doctors confirmed that she was raped.
Delhi is often considered an unsafe place for women. Police had registered 599 rape cases last year.
