Police in Cyberabad, the IT hub of Hyderabad, have begun a probe into the allegations against the sub inspector, identified only as Raheem and attached to Uppal police station.

Raheem had seized a motorcycle in a theft case 18 months ago and later gifted it to his son, who was caught driving the vehicle with a fake number plate. The young man was also allegedly using the vehicle for snatching gold chains.

He was caught a week ago in the wake of increasing chain-snatching incidents in the city. He has been taken into custody.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner S. Prabhakar Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the matter and is likely to take disciplinary action against Raheem, police sources said.

On Reddy’s direction, all seized vehicles kept at police stations have now been shifted to one place.
