Baghdad : The governor of the southern Iraqi province of Muthanna was killed in an attack Monday, a state-run television reported.
“Muhammad Ali Hassan was killed and two of his bodyguards were injured by a roadside bomb explosion near his procession,” the Iraqia television said.
The attack took place at about 8.15 a.m. while Hassan was heading from his hometown al-Rumaitha to the provincial capital city of Samawah.
Provincial authorities imposed curfew in the province while Hassan’s body was sent to the public hospital at al-Rumaitha.
On Aug 11, the governor of Qadisiya province Khalil Jalil Hamza and police chief Maj. Gen. Khalid Hassan were killed during a similar attack near the southern town of Afak.
