Islamabad : A suicide bomber attacked a security forces check post in north-western Pakistan Monday, killing three paramilitary troopers and injuring 12, the army and local TV channels said.
Army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad confirmed that the suicide attack took place near the town of Hangus in North West Frontier Province (NWFP).
The suicide bomber blew his explosive-laden vehicle near a check post in the town of Thal, some 185 km southwest of Peshawar, the NWFP provincial capital.
Violence in Pakistan’s northwestern frontier areas has escalated since July when security forces stormed Islamabad’s Lal Masjid to flush out militants hiding there. The operation left over 100 people dead.
More than 300 people have been killed in NWFP since then.
