Gurcharan Singh Arshi, a professor in the department of Punjabi, and A. Ranjan, another professor, were suspended by a special committee of the varsity that probed into the allegations against them.

The decision came three days after students and teachers protested the rise in sexual harassment cases on the campus.

However, the varsity authorities are yet to take action against Gandhi Bhavan director Bidyut Chakrabarty, who is facing a similar charge.

“Our aim is to curb such cases on the campus and create a conducive atmosphere worth the dignity of our varsity,” said a university official.
